112 Darlington

This was an intereseting spot. MCC CL 4 miles from Darlington and just over the bridge from Croft in Richmonshire. Only £5 per nite, incl EHU. Very popular it seemed, especailly the monthly Country and Western Dancers meet.

111 Beal

Beal, the Nature car park overlooking the causeway to Holy Island.

110 Haddington

About 1/2 and hour east of Edinburgh on the A1 south this little CL has hard standing and a paddock. In process of renovating the facilities but a pricy £15 a night incl EHU. Presently a MCC CL but seeking to swap to CCC.
The views were OK but it is in the middle of nowhere and opposite the noisy West Lothian Farmers Centre

109 Loch Lomond

This was a nice picnic area about mid way before Glasgow. There were no signs or restrictions but the gates are locked at 8pm. The parking bays were all sloping.

108 Inverary

The Argyle Campsite, a large many static vans site with a number of touring site. On the Loch side and has it's own slipway making it very popular with sailers. Usual price £17-25/nite but off season we paid £10 including EHU. Inverary has a pay and display car park with a few motorhome bays BUT no overnite signs are in abundance.

107 Claonaig Ferry Terminal

The ferry wasn't running over winter but the toilets were open and there were a couple of tourers parked up (for winter) in the car park opposite the terminal. No signs or restrictions so we would have happily parked up for the night.

106 Cambeltown

Killeguer Caravan Park
1/2 hour north of Cambeltown on the Atlantic coast is this nice little site. Mostly statics but 10-15 tourers facing the sea. Although they were closed they allowed us to park overnite and use the elsan dump.

105 Adfern

Along the road and just past the village of Adfern there is a 10 pitch motorhome stopover site under construction. When finished it will have a small WC/Basin cabin, EHUs and 2 taps.

We phoned and was allowed to stay for nowt. However would have been happy to pay and would certainly visit again

104 Sound of Jura

The was a single track and narrow lane along the water's edge. Wasn't really any places to stop and the verges were very soft.

103 Connel CL & Loch Etive

This is small CL just over the bridge and about 1/2 hour from Oban. It costs £14/nite incl elec.

The views are ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. They could charge £14 an hour for the views but hope they won't!

Unfortunately the weather really let us down but would certainly visit here again.

102 More Highlands

Same comments as post 101.

101 Lower Highlands

On the way around the Trossacs and into Argyleshire there were some wonderfull views and laybys. Not sure we would want to overnite in the laybys but quick stops for fotos and a cuppa were more than appropriate.

100 Strathyre

Small Picknique Area just at entrance to village travelling north.
There were no signs or restrictions here unlike the ones at the Car Park a bit further on next to the Post Office. Opposite there was a nice pub/restaurant where we were made welcome.

99 Falkirk Wheel

Falkirk Wheel Car Park.
The Council allows overnite parking for £10, ticket payable at visitor centre info desk. You can also use the 'boater' loos and shower but need to leave £5 deposit for the key. The centre is closed Mons & Tues.
The wheel is really a wonder to behold and the paths and walks around the centre crossing the Antonine Wall earthworks are very pleasant too.

98 Old Stables Inn Beattock

A very handy stopping off place on the way up to Scotland. Very friendly hosts and the view of the Moffatt Hills from the car park was very nice. Was allowed to draw water from tap in the car park, which was nice and level. Futher on in the village is the big Beattock Site which allows you to MT the elsan. The pub is a calor gas dealer but didnt have any small 6kgs bottles. Pub stop par excellance and would certainlt stay again.

97 Skegness

Park Resort, Skegness.

Whilst not our usual sort of stopover, this is excellent value for money at £5 off season rate. The price includes EHU plus use of pool, sauna etc.

96 Chapel St Leonards

Common Farm, MCC CL.

About 2 miles from Chapel SL, this site has a small shower and toilet as well as elsan and fresh water facilities.

95 Lincoln

Massive car park and sloping field. Only elsan, bins and water facilities. This MCC CL is too far off Lincoln to be walked or cycled but safe and private.
Whisby Aqua and Garden Centre. Shops and fishing lakes

94- Retford

Fairly busy pub, The Birches. Easy walk to Asda, town and canal.
Good value meals in pub but TV reception was poor.

93 Roman Road, Chapel st Leonards

The Shambles, small holding. Just 200 yds from the sea and 'The Terrace' seafront car park. Unfortunately the Council is waging war against motorhomers. The site is VERY basic but quite adequate for a couple of nights.

92 Frieston RSPB

Not easy to get to but, once found a wonder spot for watching birds and soaking in nature.

There was no restrictions we could find and i guess a number of bird watchers sleep overnight to catch the 'early worms'!

91 Caister on Sea Beach CP

Beach CP next to Lifebaot Station.

The good news is this CP is right next to the sea and offers a Public WC and is foc Oct-March. The bad news is they appear to be adding height restrictions barriers,

90 Caister on Sea, Old Hall

Now a Hotel, restaurant and bar this was the site of a popular caravan park until recently.

The foc facilites incl EHU are more than you could ask for. The £5 breakfast excellent value for money. would certainly visit again. They are a MCC safeknights location and a Britstop.

89 Norwich

The Camping and Caravanning Club Site

Not that bad, not that noisy either. Not that far from city centre as well. At the end of the disused railway cycle track into Norwich you join the main stream traffic which is both busy and dangerous.

88 Framington Piggot

The Gull P/H

On the main road from Norwich to Lodden.

87 Burgh Apton (our spot)

The Street Farm

Retired farmer and Caravanner allowed us to park up on the back yard. The farm has a large and well stocked fishing lake.

86 Burgh Apton

The George and Dragon

Have marked this down as a possible for the future. As it is on the main road, they may have sufficient custom. Needs a phonecall. The Street leading to Burgh Apton.

85 Spalding

The Bell Inn. A fellow WoMoer adn Landlord. MCC CL.

A quiet spot off the beaten track. They are shortly to open a further area as a CCC CL.

84 Surfleet seas end

On the other side of the busy A15 junction is the raod to Seas End. The Sip Inn down there may allow WoMos but we didnt ask this time. The boats and broads were most attractive.

83 Surfleet near Spalding

Riverside Hotel, car park.
A very nice spot next to the river. Lively and busy pub, frequented by the locals.
As you can see from the roadside view it is next to a very busy road. It was loud.

82 Newark (Farndon)

Down by the Riverside (Inn). The Trent of course.
Unsure who owns the riverside C/P but much used by WoMo's and fishermen. The public WC opens at 7am and is clean. Very nice spot and police patrol car drive bys completely ignored the overnighters.

81 Cantabury

This SP is in the Dover Rd, P+R. It is however close enough to the City to ride in on the bikes. There is water and elsan disposal. It is very popular. It was an easy 40 mins drive to the Dover docks.

NB barriers close at 8.30pm

80 Verl (Privaat)

Only available for ourselves. The VE point in Verl has closed down as the business shut down.

79 Rietberg.

Am Bibeldorf, a mueum of Bible stories and lifestyle. on the opposite side of the road is a wonderful antiques centre.

The WoMo SP is on the road side and foc. The Sanistation, $1 has a slide up elsan disposal point, the first we'd seen. Quite novel.

78 Wiedenbruck

The other, southern part of the twin towns. The SP is foc, has bins but no other facilities. It has poor Sat reception. Am Hallenbad.

77 Harsewinkel

FOC but no facilities. Got Sat reception and next to Swimming Pool.

76 Rheda

Half of the twin towns of Rheda Weisenbruck.
The circus was in town so we didnt stay this time. The SP is right near the town centre for walks and shopping.

75 Drensteinfurt (D)

Next to Freibad, closed when we visited. Surprisingly EHU and water both foc... As is the 3 pitches, 2 roadside, 1 in bushes. How do they do it?

Thursday, 26 September 2013

74 Ondrup am Kanal

There is a service point within the campsite opposite the canal side car parking spaces. It costs $5. There were 2 WoMos parked up alongside the canal and a police car drove by and didnt stop so I guess parking is commonplace. In summer i am sure this spot will be very busy.

73 Seppenrade (D)

Just off the main road and next to the well known 'Rose Garden', this SP is foc and has foc water.

72 Haltern am See

The walk or bike ride around the lake is great. The SP is between town and lake so very well placed. Now charges $5/24 hrs max, 3 days stay. EHU and Elsan each cost $1. It s overshadowed by trees which, in summer will rovide good shade. Unfortunately the TV and Sat receptions are not good/non existant. Over the raod is the swimming pool.

71 Silbersee (D)

There are 2 car parks at this Lake. It has a sea side type sandy beach and lots of water sports activities. The first car park has the WoMo SP in the bottom corner and looked a bit remote and dodgy. The EHU pillar looked like it had been vandalised and now converted to tokens., available at the boat station.

Silbersee I  (Main)
The overflow car park, a bit further down the lane was large and a WoMo was parked up at the bottom. I think this would be my prefered spot too. The SP was foc and cost for EHU and Water. I imagine is is very busy in summer and good weather. It was very empty on our dull September day visit.

Silbersee II (Overflow)
